Iola Davis Obituary

The presence of Our Lord and Savior blessed our home with an amazing, Iola Campbell Davis, born April 12, 1934 in Dillon County, South Carolina. She was reared in a loving home by her mother, Ethel and her grandparents, Don and Renee Campbell.  “Skip” as she was lovingly known transitioned Wednesday, September 19, 2018. She had a smile, dancing eyes and a demeanor that made all who encountered her feel special and appreciated. Special she was to her family and friends.  She will be missed dearly.

Iola was educated in the Dillon County public schools and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Allen University, Columbia, South Carolina. She taught school in the Albemarle City Schools until her retirement. For many years she coached the Lakeview High School Women’s Basketball team, Lakeview, South Carolina.

A Believer, she was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, Floydale, South Carolina; and later joined Barringer Chapel Baptist Church, Norwood, North Carolina. Iola was a faithful and dedicated Missionary and member of the Usher Board.

Never idle, involved, a community and civic minded individual, Iola was a fifty-year member of the Alba Chapter # 34, Order of Eastern Star, Latta, South Carolina; and a member of the Salisbury Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.

Always ‘on the go’ she was never too busy to spend time with family-especially her grandchildren and her friends. Quite the sports enthusiast, she enjoyed many sporting events. Her favorite football teams were: the Dallas Cowboys, Albemarle Bull Dogs and WSSU (Winston-Salem State University) Rams. She found time for fishing, traveling, gardening, playing card games and never meeting a stranger.

She married Jacob B. (JB) Davis Sr., who preceded her in death. They were loving parents to Jacob, Jr. and Douglas.

A legacy of love, adoration and fond memories will always be treasured by her sons: Jacob (Donna) Davis, Jr., Matthews, North Carolina and Douglas (Tashia) Davis, Sr., High Point, North Carolina; grandchildren: Damon, Douglas, Jr., Myron, Mariah, Jacob, Jamira, Alexis and Tamara; great grandchildren: Damyia, Damien, Jr.,Demira, Damieana, ZaNiya, Ava, Damiya, Callie and Douglas III; and countless family and friends.
