Robert G. Holbrook was born August 23, 1956 in Bridgeport, Connecticut where he also received his formal education. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Christal Hall Holbrook. Robert proudly served in the United States Navy for twenty years (1976-1996). He was a recipient of the Sailor of the Year Award for NAVSUBTORPFAC CHASN, COMSUBRON 18, COMSUBGRU 6, COMSUBLANT and CINCLANTFLT Runner-up. Medals received included: Joint Meritorious Unit Award, four Navy Achievement Medals, four Good Conduct Awards, Coast Guard S.O.S Ribbon, two Meritorious Unit Commendations, Humanitarian Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal and Enlisted Service Warfare Insignia. He also received the Order of the Blue Nose (October 1, 1979) aboard the USS Richard E Byrd (DDG-23). Robert G. Holbrook was employed at the United States Postal Service here in Stanly County, North Carolina.
Preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Holbrook and Mildred Taylor Holbrook, and one brother, John Holbrook.
Left to cherish his loving memory are his wife Christal H. Holbrook, Badin NC; three daughters: LaShanta Holbrook and G’nayia Holbrook both of Pontiac Michigan, and April H. Young (Javier) , Mint Hill, North Carolina; one sister, Claudia Rudd (Robert); two brothers: Norman Holbrook and Jimmy Holbrook (Sharon); seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; four sisters-in-law; three brothers-in- law; special friends: Nicholas Holt, Birmingham, Alabama, Clifton and Joyce Bolden, Norfolk, Virginia; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
