Richard H Watkins

February 28, 1948 ~ December 1, 2016 (age 68) 68 Years Old

“God saw the road was getting rough, the hill too hard to climb. So He closed the weary eyelids and whispered peace be thine.” Mr. Richard Watkins, son of the late Samuel I and Lula Mae Dunlap Watkins, succumbed to his Savior quietly on December 1, 2016 at home in Norwood, NC.

Richard was a 1967 graduate of South Stanly High School in Norwood, NC. After high school, he received his Business Degree from Cortez Peters Business College, Washington, DC.  Richard was employed over 25 years with the Common Wealth of Pennsylvania as a Claims Adjuster and later retired and moved back home to Norwood, NC.

Richard and his family are life-long members of Bennettsville AME Zion Church, Norwood, NC; he was a faithful member prior to health challenges.  Richard loved the Lord; and his greatest contribution of legacy Richard leaves to his family and friends is Faith in the Lord. Richard loved his family, friends and neighbors; he always greeted his fellowman with a smile and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He had an infectious smile, kind heart and abiding faith for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. One of his favorite past times was cooking and baking pound cakes. His cakes were the bomb!! In his younger years he enjoyed bowling.

In addition to his parents, Richard, was preceded in death by his younger sister, Saundra Kaye Watkins, who is a twin to James Ray, and his former wife, Delores Strong Watkins.

Those who will forever love and cherish Richard’s memory are: a daughter, Kelleigh Danielle Watkins, Philadelphia, PA; a sister Sheila (Paul) Roseboro, Charlotte, NC; three brothers: Samuel Q. (Jacqueline) Watkins, Mount Gilead, NC, James Ray Watkins, and Memphis E. Watkins, both of Norwood, NC; nieces and nephews: Marcus, Deandrea, Amandeus, LaQuontera, Renee, Teryn, James, and  Shakerra; a host of great nieces, great nephews, family and friends.
