On Sunday, October 23, 2016, NELLIE LEE HORNE WILLIAMS, quietly left on her well planned journey to her new home in Glory, where she is already in fellowship with Jesus, the center of her joy, and all of her family and friends were awaiting her arrival. In sweet peace, she departed this life of 70 years, with her loved ones at her bedside. Through her illness, Nellie had an abiding faith and love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Born in Stanly County, North Carolina on May 7, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Nevin and Shellie Horne Watkins and Glenn Richardson.
Nellie attended the public schools of Stanly County, North Carolina. She was last employed as a cashier with Burger King, Albemarle, North Carolina until her health declined. She exemplified discipline, excellence, grace, dignity, understanding and above all love of her family and community.
Her church affiliations were as a life-long member of East Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Norwood, North Carolina. She served her church faithfully in many capacities as long as she could which included: former president of the Usher Board, former member of the Young Adult Choir and Missionary Board and Youth Department Leader. She found joy in taking care of her grandchildren, by giving them that special “grandmother love”.
Nellie was united in Holy Matrimony for fifty-two (52) years to Henry K. Williams.
She was preceded in death by: two daughters: Mindy Williams and Willena Williams; siblings: Robert Horne, Tabitha Thomas and Marjean Bridges.
Nellie was loyal and devoted to her family. She leaves to cherish her memory, a loving and devoted husband, Reverend Henry K. Williams, of the home; two daughters: Greta (James, Jr.) Colson and DeErica (Johnny, Jr.) Barber, both of New London, North Carolina; five grandchildren: Dylan “DJ” Colson, Chelsea Barber, Tevin Colson, Tavis Colson and Mariah Barber; six sisters: Lena Lee, Virginia Beach, Virginia, Paulette (Ralphael) Taylor, Norwood, North Carolina, Leola (Bobby) Crump and Mattie Price, both of Albemarle, North Carolina, Glendelle (John) Clyburn, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Sandra (Grady) Bowser, San Jose, California ; four brothers: Kenneth (Martha) Watkins, Albemarle, North Carolina, Mitchell (Jeanette) Watkins and Kenneth Richardson, both of Norwood, North Carolina, and Melvin (Johnsie) Richardson, Gastonia, North Carolina; two sisters-in-law: Susie (Ollie) Watkins, Charlotte, North Carolina and Virginia (John) Davis, Springdale, Maryland; three brothers-in-law: James (Gracie) Williams, Sr., New London, North Carolina, Lester (Bernice) Williams, Upper Marlboro, Maryland, and James Thomas, High Point, North Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
