Melvin Luther Patton

Melvin Luther Patton, age 79, was the son of the late Eugene Patton, Sr. and Daisy Owens Patton. He was born September 19,1936 in Stanly County, North Carolina; and on Saturday, April 9,2016 he passed while a patient at the Wilkes Regional Medical Center, Wilkesboro, North Carolina.

He was educated in the Stanly County public schools and was a graduate of Kingville High School, Albemarle, North Carolina. He enlisted and served his country honorably in the United States Army.  He enjoyed entertaining and was the proprietor of several evening establishments which included the first owner of the Peppermint Lounge, New London, North Carolina. He was also licensed beautician and a chef for many years.

Melvin was a member of Parkers Grove Baptist Church, Albemarle, North Carolina. He loved family and enjoyed telling stories, building things and those who knew him considered him a “jack of many trades”.  His favorite television show was “Swamp People”.

He was married to Ruby Crump Patton for forty-seven (47) years until her death on November 9, 2014.

In addition to his wife and parents, Melvin was preceded in death by a step-son, Curtis Crump; his siblings: Carlie Patton, Eugene Patton, Jr., Mary Shadd, Pansy Freeman, Ruth Patton and Carolyn Walton.

Cherished and fond memories are left with sons: Kelvin (Cynthia) Patton, Albemarle, North Carolina and Tony Patton, Concord, North Carolina; grandchildren: Brittany Patton and Shanna Hill; great grandchildren: Ryland Houston and Peyton Hill; sisters: Elizabeth Little, New Haven, Connecticut and Priscilla (Ronnie) Rodgers, Hamden, Connecticut; a host of other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made on behalf of Mr. Patton to Kelsey Funeral Home of Albemarle, Inc.
