Johnnie Frank Owens

February 22, 1944 ~ April 27, 2017 (age 73) 73 Years Old

Thusly, our beloved Johnnie Frank Owens, gave up time for Eternity on Thursday morning, April 27,2017. We, his family and friends, give thanksgiving for the many wonderful years we shared his life.

Johnnie was born February 22,1944 in Stanly County, North Carolina and was the son of the late Leroy and Mattie Louise Baldwin Owens. He was educated in the Stanly County public schools and was a 1963 graduate of Kingville High School, Albemarle, North Carolina. He retired from Duke Power Energy Company after several years of employment.

Johnnie was a faithful member of New Direction Life Ministries, Norwood, North Carolina; he and his family enjoyed the fellowship and friendship of this church family. He enjoyed singing and was the former manager of the United Gospel Singers of New London. His favorite hobbies included: golfing, watching baseball and westerns on television, playing pinnacle & other card games, and bowling. He loved his family dearly and always enjoyed spending time with them.

He was joined in Holy Matrimony to the former Mary Pemberton who preceded him in death on June 11, 2014. In addition to his wife, two daughters: Starlea Anthony and Peggy Owens preceded him in death.

His journey in this life has ended but the memories and the love that will forever be cherished by his family. Survivors are, his children: Reggie (Tammi) Brown, Charlotte, North Carolina, Elder Tammie Owens, New London, North Carolina, Wanda (Troy) Lancaster-Lewis, New Hope, Connecticut, and Cynthia Mason, Albemarle, North Carolina; grandchildren: Tiana Harris, Whitney Scott, Tempestt Owens, Rickey Dewayne Owens, Jr., Kris Anthony, Gary Rogers, Anthony Lancaster, Stefen Dobbins, Ryan Dobbins, Quai Anthony, and Peggy Owens; fourteen great grandchildren; brothers: Gary (Trina) Owens, Kearnsville, North Carolina and Roy (Betty) Owens, New London, North Carolina; sisters: Addie Mae Picket, New London, North Carolina, Evelyn O. Troutman, Richfield, North Carolina, Vanessa  (Kenneth) Chambers, New London, North Carolina, and Gaynelle Slater, Albemarle, North Carolina; god daughters: Glenda (Jeff) Hill and Yvonne (Jay) Thomas; honorary grandchildren: Darrin Phifer, Corynthia Little, Christopher Scott, Derek Hill, Shanetta (Matt) McNeil; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
