Welcome to the memorial page for

Jeannie (Kendall) Hailey

June 5, 1920 ~ January 18, 2016 (age 95) 95 Years Old

On Monday, January 18, 2016, Jeannie Kendall Hailey quietly left on her well planned journey to her new home in glory.  She was welcomed home by Jesus, the center of her joy, and all of her family and friends who were awaiting her arrival.  In sweet peace, she departed this life of 95 years at Forrest Oaks Nursing Home after several weeks of serious illness.

Jean, as she was affectionately known, was born to the late James V. and Essie Bivens Kendall on June 5, 1920 in Stanly County, North Carolina.  She received her formal education from the Stanly County School System, Stanly County, North Carolina.  She later went on to enroll in Nursing School after relocating to Newark, New Jersey. Prior to completing the nursing program, Jeannie gained employment with the Federal Government working in the Defense Department.  She was last employed as a caregiver for the Little’s in New York, New York.

For over 60 years, even after relocating, she was a faithful member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, Oakboro, North Carolina.  While living in New York, she joined New Zion Missionary Baptist Church. As a member she served as a Missionary, Sunday School teacher, and usher. Once returning home, she continued servicing the Lord as a Missionary for Galilee Missionary Baptist Church until her health declined.

She was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Clayton Hailey, Sr. who preceded her in death on February 3, 2012. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: Elizabeth, Martin Jack, Burrill, Mary, Macky, Wincie, and J.V.

Left to treasure her memory are her sisters: Alma L. Kendall and Essie Mae K. Wall, both of New York, New York;  devoted caregivers, grandson, W. Demar Huntley and niece, Sonja Kendall, both of Albemarle, North Carolina ; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The example “Jean” set, of loyalty and devotion to family and friends, will forever be embedded in our hearts and in the way we live.
