Horace Christopher Owens

Horace Christopher Owens, age 50, was born August 17, 1967 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was the youngest child born to Parthena M. Owens Shepherd and the late Ronnie L. Owens. He departed his earthly life September 30, 2017 at his residence in Sanford, North Carolina .

Chris as he was affectionately known was educated in the public schools of Stanly County, North Carolina and graduated from North Stanly High School, New London, North Carolina-Class of 1986.In high school Chris was a member of the varsity basketball and football teams. Prior to declining health, he was employed with Tyson Foods Incorporated in the production department. Chris attended New Direction Life Ministries, Norwood, North Carolina where he was the sound technician. After relocating to Sanford, he was affiliated with Greater Zion Holy Temple, Inc.

Known for his expert technical skills, Chris could ‘fix-it’ and ‘build-it’. He repaired anything broken from cars, home gadgets, and appliances. He enjoyed bowling, shooting pool, fishing, watching Nascar and cheering for his favorite football team-the Philadelphia Eagles. He was an excellent cook and his specialty was baking a scrumptious pound cake.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ronnie L. Owens; paternal grandparents: Romeo and Hestell Owens; maternal grandparents: Horace and Hazel McLendon; and his aunt, Wanda P. Hardy.

Chris and Amanda Perry Owens were joined in Holy Matrimony in October 2013.

Chris was fun-loving and always willing to lend a helping hand to his fellowman. His memory will forever be cherished by his devoted wife, Amanda P. Owens; two sons: Anthony Perry (Jalisa Reid) and Darius Johnson , all of Sanford, North Carolina; three daughters: Jessica Bridges, Spring Lake, North Carolina, Kayla Frick, Albemarle, North Carolina and Karrington Kiker, Aquadale, North Carolina; five grandchildren: Cedrique, Jalissa, Christopher, Zahmere, and Noah; a loving mother, Parthena M. Shepherd; a brother, Marcus (Fredia) Owens; two sisters: P. Tijuana Owens Atkins and  Dr. Anita (Reverend Michael) Owens-Scott, all of Albemarle, North Carolina; four uncles: Albert Owens, William Owens, Robert(Lydia) Owens and Johnny Harold (Beverly) Owens; seven aunts: Mary J. Kirkley, L. Lorraine Owens, Odessa (Dexter) Gaither, Diane (David) Jeffers, Cherryan (Paul) Bennett, Linda Owens and Sylvia (Tony) Turner; his best friend, Haywood Burroughs a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends.
