All-Powerful God, who turned the cross into a resurrection, and the darkness of death into a morning of light and new life: we thank thee for the glow of faith and hope that rises in our hearts this day, through the knowledge of Jesus Christ, our Lord who verified that love is stronger than hate, that life outlasts death, and who said, “Because I live, you shall live also.” We, her family and friends, find solace in these words as we remember the many years we shared the life of Helen Louise Kerr Snuggs Hutchinson, fondly called “Miss Kate”.

“Miss Kate” was born in Stanly County, North Carolina on May 8, 1920; and was the daughter of the late William and Bessie Harris Kerr. Her formal education was received in the public schools of Stanly County where she graduated from the historic Kingville High School, Albemarle, North Carolina. After graduation she was employed and retired from the New Jersey Board of Education.

She was a member of Union Chapel A. M. E. Zion Church, Albemarle, North Carolina; there she served on the Women’s Home & Overseas Missionary Society. “Ms. Kate” loved flowers and she could often be seen working in her flower gardens. She was an excellent cook and kept an immaculate home. Prior to declining health, she enjoyed visiting her family and friends.

“Miss Kate” was married to the late Clement Snuggs, Sr. and Marshall Hutchinson. She was also preceded in death by two sons: Clement Snuggs, Jr. and Douglas Kerr; a brother, Robert Kerr; and a sister, Maxine Williams.

A legacy of love, devotion and fond memories are left with her grandson, Wendell (Patricia) Snuggs; granddaughter, Carol Snuggs; great granddaughters: Alicia and Sabree; great grandson, Samuel; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

“Goodnight sweet Kate, may flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.”
