Gaynelle Roberta (Owens) Slater

In sweet peace, Gaynelle Roberta Owens Slater, gave up time for Eternity and journeyed to her Heavenly home Tuesday, November 14, 2017 while a patient at Carolinas Healthcare System-Stanly, Albemarle, North Carolina. She was surrounded by her loving family and it is with love and humility that we give thanks to Our Lord and Savior for His grace and mercy.

Born September 8, 1955 in Stanly County, North Carolina, Gaynelle was the youngest child born to the late Leroy James and Mattie Louise Baldwin Owens. She attended the Stanly County public schools and graduated in the Class of 1973- North Stanly High School, New London, North Carolina. She furthered her education while residing in Dayton, Ohio and was employed as a clerical with CMC Vocational Training.  Gaynelle was a member of Parkers Grove Baptist Church, New London, North Carolina where enjoyed  the fellowship of the parishoners.

In her leisure, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, playing board games and enjoyed watching law and order programs on television as she had an excellent understanding of judiciary matters. Gaynelle was also a talented writer.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Isaac Slater; daughter, Roni Kenyatta Williams; grandson, Javaroius Watkins; granddaughter, Tamia Janelle Owens; brothers: Sam Owens, Jim Owens, Reverend Harry Lee Owens and Johnnie Frank Owens; sisters: Peggy Griffin and Minister Evelyn Troutman.

Gaynelle will be fondly remembered and revered by those who survive. Cherished survivors are: son, Roderick ( D.) Owens, Sr., Dayton, Ohio;  daughters: Jerrita Michella Owens, Albemarle, North Carolina and Vanda Mims, Harrisburg, North Carolina; six grand-children: Adrian Smith, Jr., Jazmine Owens, Diora Owens, Roderick Owens, Jr., Ashley Peoples and Asis Fussell; great grandchild, Ashton Peoples; god daughter, Veronica Williams; brothers: Gary (Trina) Owens, Kearnsville, North Carolina and Roy (Betty) Owens, New London, North Carolina; sisters: Addie Mae Picket and Minister Vanessa (Kenneth)  Chambers, both of New London, North Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
