Alma Kendall

March 25, 1926 ~ September 17, 2017 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Ms. Alma (“Elma” to close family) Kendall was born in Stanly County, North Carolina to the late Mr. J. Van and Mrs. Essie Bivens Kendall on March 25, 1926. She departed her earthly life on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Presbyterian Hospital, New York City.

Alma received her education from the Stanly County Schools, graduating from Kingville High School in 1946. A few years after graduation, she left home for New York City. She was employed for more than 35 years at Rothchild Printing Company, where she retired. She was currently employed as a grandmother’s helper for New York City Department of Aging.

 Alma’s spiritual journey started at an early age as a member of St. Matthews United Church of God, Oakboro, North Carolina.  While living in New York, she joined and “dearly loved’ Church on the Hill AME Zion Church.  At Church on the Hill, she served as President of the Deaconess Board, Class Leader, member of Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society and the Culinary Staff.

 Alma was a fun loving, happy person.  She loved her family and friends.  She was always willing to help wherever she could; and she loved family gatherings and parties.  Alma traveled extensively and was always on the go. She wore beautiful clothes and was known for her stylish wardrobe.

Memories of Alma will be cherished by her daughter, Rita (Ron) Kilgore, Sr.; her grandchildren: Ron, Jr. (Mondah), Randy and Nicole; her great-grandsons: Reece and Ryan Kilgore; her sister, Mrs. Essie Wall; her longtime companion, Willie Cooper.  She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
